Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen issued a stark warning to U.S. Congress – the U.S. will reach the statutory debt limit by next Thursday. The Treasury Department will begin taking “extraordinary measures” to prevent a default. Yellen is urging Congress to pass legislation to protect the credit of the nation. “Failure to meet the government’s obligations would cause irreparable harm to the U.S. economy, the livelihoods of all Americans, and global financial stability,” Yellen advised.
