Beornwulf was King of Mercia who reigned between 823 and 825 AD. Beornwulf deposed CEOLWULF in 823 and soon after led an army into Wessex. Following some initial success, Beornwulf was eventually defeated by the powerful ECGBERHT of Wessex in 825 AD and was later killed near Swindon about 827 AD. He was succeeded by LUDECA, who was previously an ealdorman.
