Carinus (283-285AD) Silvered Antoninianus

$300.00

Carinus was not well-liked and upon his death, he and his entire family were condemned with their names removed. Carinus faced a challenger Diocletian and the Eastern legions. Carinus‘ forces outnumbered those of Diocletian and at the moment when victory was near, Carinus was murdered by one of his own officers.

These antoninianus of Carinus were clearly buried perhaps ahead of that battle for they are very rare to have their silver plating still intact. Thus, these coins grade as almost uncirculated, which is quite rare. The silver plating typically does not last.
